Dr. Geoff Barnes is the section editor in vascular medicine for K2P’s CurrentMDTM Cardiology product and recently provided an expert perspective on antithrombotic therapy following aortic and mitral valve intervention. He is a cardiologist and vascular medicine specialist at the Frankel Cardiovascular Center, University of Michigan Health System. He serves on the board of the National Certification Board of Anticoagulation Providers and in leadership positions with the American Heart Association, American College of Cardiology, Society for Vascular Medicine, and International Society on Thrombosis and Haemostasis. Dr. Barnes’ clinical interests include the treatment of vascular disorders (including venous thromboembolism, peripheral artery disease, and Raynaud’s disorders) and anticoagulation. He currently serves as the co-director of the Michigan Anticoagulation Quality Improvement Initiative (MAQI2) and leads an NHLBI-funded study to improve the delivery of peri-procedural antithrombotic therapy by leveraging the expertise and infrastructure of the anticoagulation clinic. His other research interests include quality improvement, implementation science, health systems engineering, and patient-provider shared decision making.
